GlobalRoam Launches Budget Roaming Starter Kit for Travelers

Singapore, 7th February, 2006 – GlobalRoam released a Budget Roaming Starter Kit today, which will help travelers save around 40% on their mobile roaming bills. The S$30 kit is an all-in-one pack for travelers to start saving immediately when roaming overseas. The kit is currently available for people traveling to China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Travelers experience high mobile bills when overseas, with high IDD rates as a result of bi-lateral agreements between the different mobile operators. One of the ways that travelers can bypass roaming rates is to purchase a local prepaid SIM card. In this way, roamers can make and receive local calls cheaply and locals can also reach the user without having to incur expensive IDD charges. However, the major drawbacks include that travelers would have to inform others of their temporary overseas number; some travelers end up carrying 2 phones, in case of missing calls made to their Singapore mobile number; and it is expensive for people to call if the traveler used only an overseas SIM card, as it means paying IDD charges to an overseas number.

GlobalRoam’s services help to overcome the above disadvantages of using an overseas SIM card. It’s Call-Forwarding (receiving forwarded calls) and Call-Back (making calls) service allows users to receive all calls using just one phone, and still enjoy savings when making calls overseas. User just need to do some simple settings of diverting their mobile phone to a GlobalNumber (GNum) and they can receive all calls made to their Singapore mobile number via their overseas prepaid SIM card.
